Injector Sizes with Turbo-Tuner
« on: January 28, 2009, 11:22:00 AM »
Some of the most frequent questions about TT are to do with injector sizes, so here is a brief note about this...

TT can be used with pretty much any size of injector. The limiting factor is not really the Turbo-Tuner software, but the minimum flow of the injectors and the control resolution. Running injectors which are excessively large can result in difficulty fueling correctly at idle, and also less precise control of fueling over the entire rev range.

In the real world, this just means that your idle and part throttle running may be lumpy, and your AFR curve not as "straight" as you would like it to be on the dyno chart. But it should not impact on the ability to deliver the correct quantity of fuel at WOT.

So if for examle I go for the 0 280 155 968 410cc@3bar Green injectors with a larger T4 sized turbo will I be able to control the resolution well enough to show a smooth AFR curve through use of a wideband setup?  I currently have a set of greens for use but do not want to fit them in the car until I am able to use a map suited to them and going down the turbo tuner route seems to be the most viable route for my plans as I constantly change parts to see what gains are to be had.

Can you supply help or maps suited to various types of hardware that may be fitted or is  trial and error using the software in the car?

Yes!

I can help you with the tuning process, but I don't actually create maps for specific setups. However other people may have suitable maps to share. Soon it will also be possible to buy RICA base maps for TT.

But DIY tuning is what the TT is all about and you can always take it to a tuning shop if you are unsure how to map it yourself. The TT also comes with an example tune to help you get started.
